Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket, which is elevated 10 feet off the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Players can advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing it while running) or passing it to teammates. Scoring can occur through field goals, worth two or three points depending on the distance from the hoop, and free throws, worth one point, awarded after certain fouls. The objective is to accumulate more points than the opposing team within a defined time limit, usually divided into quarters. Basketball emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skillful ball handling, while also incorporating elements of physical fitness and competition. It is widely popular globally and played professionally in leagues such as the NBA (National Basketball Association).
