Football

Football is a team sport played primarily with a spherical ball between two teams, generally consisting of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. While the term “football” can refer to various codes of the sport around the world, including association football (known as soccer in some countries) and American football, it most commonly denotes association football.

In association football, the game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. Players predominantly use their feet to maneuver the ball, but they may also use other parts of their body, except for the arms and hands (goalkeepers are an exception). The sport is governed internationally by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), and it enjoys immense popularity globally, with major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup showcasing its widespread appeal. Football encourages teamwork, strategy, and athleticism, and it serves as a significant cultural phenomenon in many societies.
